RCD Espanyol has unveiled its second kit for the 2026‑27 season, a fiery red version that revives the iconic uniform worn between 1986 and 1993. The launch took place on Friday at the club's headquarters, with players, officials and fans receiving the shirt with enthusiasm.

What does the new second skin look like?

The jersey features an intense red base, while the traditional white‑blue stripes now run across the sleeves instead of the central area. The fabric incorporates a diamond pattern inspired by the parrot's plumage, adding texture and modernity. At the top of the back, just below the collar, appears the slogan “Rebels d’arrel”, adopted by the club in recent months.

Why is Espanyol reviving this historic design?

The club explained that the piece pays tribute to a golden era: third place in the 86/87 league, the 1988 UEFA final and the 1990 promotion. Keeping the aesthetic essence while adding contemporary finishes aims to connect fans with history while offering an attractive product for collectors and supporters.

How does it fit into the current season?

While the uniform is an aesthetic matter, the team continues to battle in La Liga, sitting 11th with 46 points, 12 wins, 10 draws and 16 losses from 38 games, and a recent run of DWWLL. With 43 goals scored and 55 conceded, the club trails the leaders Barcelona by 48 points, highlighting the need to boost identity and morale inside the locker room.

What’s next for the red jersey?

The shirt is already on sale in the official store and is expected to be one of the season’s best‑sellers, thanks to the emotional link to the 80s era and the unique design details. Moreover, the club announced that part of the proceeds will go to youth projects, strengthening the connection between past, present and future of Espanyol.
