RCD Espanyol announced on Tuesday the arrival of Quilindschy Hartman, a 24‑year‑old left‑back, on a season‑long loan from Burnley FC. The signing, the club's second this transfer window, follows the addition of Álex Calatrava and strengthens the back line for the 2026‑27 campaign.
Hartman, of Curaçaoan descent, played for Feyenoord, where he won the Dutch league, cup and super cup. He later moved to the Premier League with Burnley, also owned by American businessman Alan Pace. He is a Dutch international known for his pace and attacking ability on the left flank.
The Catalan side aims to bolster its defence while using strategic loan deals. Hartman's experience at top‑level competitions adds quality and flexibility. The close ties between Espanyol and Burnley also open the door for future swaps, such as academy prospect Lluc Castell potentially heading to England.
Hartman's official presentation will take place tomorrow at noon in the RCD Stadium, just before training resumes. The squad has already begun physical tests at Clínica Corachán and the Dani Jarque Sports City. The first training session, led by Manolo González, is set for Thursday, and the schedule includes friendlies against UE Olot, FC Pau, Sabadell, Burnley, Middlesbrough and Coventry.
Currently, Espanyol sits 11th in La Liga with 46 points after 38 games (12 wins, 10 draws, 16 losses). The team has scored 43 goals and conceded 55, a -12 goal difference, and is 48 points behind leaders Barcelona in the title race.
The club will continue its preparation in Girona from July 15‑22, then return to Barcelona for the final training block. The official season kicks off the weekend of August 15‑16 against Levante at home. With Hartman and Calatrava already integrated, Espanyol hopes to start the campaign with a sturdier defence and fresh attacking options.
