Monchi, former Sevilla FC sporting director, talks about his connection with RCD Espanyol in a recent interview. The Andalusian recalled how people used to applaud him in Sarriá when he was a reserve goalkeeper for Sevilla FC. "I remember, and I've told it many times and now it's a coincidence that I'm here, that since that program had its genesis in Barcelona, the figure of Monchi, being a reserve goalkeeper, was very well known. I remember that I used to come out in Sarriá to warm up for Juan Carlos Unzué, who was the starting goalkeeper, and the crowd, or goal, I don't know how it's called here, used to applaud me. Well, they used to applaud me a bit with sarcasm and I took it. But it was, as I said, the most known reserve goalkeeper because in this area, I remember that I used to come out to warm up and the crowd used to applaud. I mean, what's this? What a joke!"
